How to use the website

focal.ie is a terminology database. This website provides three different ways to consult the database:

Quick Search: this is a quick way to find a term, in Irish or in English, even if you don’t know its exact wording.
Advanced Search: a facility is available here to search the database according to specialized criteria, for example by the start or end of a word, or by part of speech.
Alphabetical Listings: this is where you can browse terms in alphabetical order, just like you would in a printed dictionary.

In addition to these three search engines, there is a form available here to submit terms to the Terminology Committee if they are not in the database. If you don’t find the term you are looking for you can click on send a request to the Terminology Committee at the bottom right of the screen.
